'Beetlejuice 2' in the Works? Release Date, Cast, Plot & Rumors Here!

According to actress Winona Ryder, the sequel to the dark, supernatural comedy, "Beetlejuice," is finally going to happen.

During an interview on the Late Show with Seth Meyers, Ryder jokingly confirmed that the sequel will be happening because the director of the original film, Tim Burton, also guaranteed the making of the sequel. Ryder states that Burton was doing an interview for his newest movie, "Big Eyes," when someone asked about "Beetlejuice 2." The director responded that it is indeed happening and that Ryder and the rest of the cast are on board with the film.

The Guardian reports that Warner Bros. and Burton have been in talks about making a sequel to "Beetlejuice" since 2013. The following year, one of the stars, Michael Keaton, stated that he had been in email contact with Burton about the sequel. Keaton said that if Burton is on the project for the sequel, it's difficult not to be on the project as well.

According to Entertainment Weekly veteran screen writer Seth Grahame-Smith has been tapped to write the screenplay for the film. Grahame-Smith has written screenplays for films such as "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," "Pride and Prejudice" and "Zombies."

Currently, there is no news on the return of the other characters of the original film. Burton has also said in another interview that the only person he wants to play the ghost with the most is indeed Keaton.

For those who do not remember, "Beetlejuice" also starred Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin as Adam and Barbara Maitland. The couple had been recently deceased and haunted the house where the Deetz family moved into after their death. The couple were having a hard time scaring the Deetz family, which Ryder was a part of, out of the house. As a last ditch move, the Maitland's summoned Beetlejuice to get the family out. Unfortunately for all those involved, Beetlejuice turned out to be more than that they can handle, and the two families had to combine forces to return Beetlejuice to the netherworld.

Information on "Beetlejuice 2" has been kept secret for a while now, with only Burton and a handful of people knowing what its true status really is. However, with the release of the information during his interview and Ryder's reaction to the news, it seems that fans of the film will finally be yelling "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice" once again.
