Salma Hayek has spoken about being discriminated and even claimed that America has very severe problems about discrimination.

In an interview with Huffington Post while promoting her latest film project "The Prophet," the actress was asked a very interesting question from a viewer. Salma was questioned whether she has experienced being discriminated because of her accent and her background before she became famous in Hollywood. The 48-year-old actress said that the subject of being famous or not was not "deterrent of discrimination."

"Of course, I've been discriminated [against]. I think America has a very severe problem with discrimination that we try to overlook. It's there," Hayek said. "If the problem is with discrimination, women experience it even worse."

When the actress was asked of the exact moment when she felt discriminated, Salma said that there were just so many incidents but recalled a specific time when she and a friend went to a Los Angeles movie theater and they sat near another patron's section.

A man that was seated told them that he didn't want to "feel their presence" near him. The conversation with the man quickly got heated up and he ended up screaming that Salma and her friend should just go back to their countries. The Mexican-born actress put her foot down and answered she was not only a citizen, adding that even before America was America, it was already her country and that if he has a problem with it he can move.

"I have a whole book that I could write about these moments, that are very memorable. But I have to say they never really quite hurt me. I was like, 'Woah, you're dumb, my goodness you are so ignorant.' I sort of felt sorry for this person for just being so out of touch with the world, with his own humanity," Salma said.

In an article by Latin Post, the actress reportedly said that she could write a whole book about these incidents in her life because there are just so many. She also added that being a woman was enough to be discriminated.

Salma said that coming to Hollywood was like a gamble for her because she was already a successful actress in Mexico then and could just have continued on that path. She said that Hollywood wanted someone who was quiet and pretty and she didn't fit in any.

The 48-year-old actress also mentioned that she was not able meet Hollywood's idea of a Latina woman or even an Arab or American woman. Despite her struggles in launching her career in Hollywood, she managed to achieve both fame and recognition.
