Google-branded devices are particularly attractive to Android enthusiasts since they are the first in line to receive the latest versions of Google's mobile operating system. If you're thinking about purchasing a Google-branded smartphone, here's a look at how the recently-launched Nexus 4 stacks up against the older Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

The LG Nexus 4 is the more powerful of the two smartphones, boasting a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, and a 4.7-inch display with a 1280X768 resolution. The Nexus 4's rear-facing camera will take 8-megapixel photographs, while the front-facing camera shoots at 1.3 megapixels.

An unlocked 8GB LG Nexus 4 will cost $299.99 and the 16GB variant costs $349.99, but remember the LG Nexus 4 lacks LTE connectivity.

Google has stopped selling the HSPA+/GSM Galaxy Nexus through Google Play, but  consumers can still pick up a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus with LTE. The Galay Nexus comes with 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, and a 4.65-inch, 1280X720 screen. The handset sports a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

Verizon sells a new 16GB LTE Galaxy Nexus for $99.99 with a two-year contract and a pre-owned version for $49.99 with a two-year contract. The phone runs on the CDMA network so if you want an unlocked HSPA+/GSM Galaxy Nexus, you can find one for around $350 through Amazon Wireless. Keep in mind that the Verizon variant will receive updates through Verizon, meaning it will take longer than the unlocked models to get Android upgrades.

The LG Nexus 4 runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean right out of the box, and there are plenty of custom Android 4.2 ROMS available for a rooted Galaxy Nexus.

While the Galaxy Nexus is a great phone, the LG Nexus 4 should be most people's first choice - unless you want the LTE support that the Verizon Galaxy Nexus offers. Just remember that the Android upgrades will release slower through Verizon.
