Rumors are circulating that the Microsoft Lumia 940, Microsoft Lumia 940 XL and Lumia 84 smartphone models are set to be out in the market soon. The three phones will most likely become available before the end of 2015 and will each feature on-screen touch buttons.

Nokia Power User reported that the three phones will be released, despite previous rumors that Microsoft will be skipping one generation and moving immediately to the Lumia 950 series. The Lumia 940 and 940 XL phones are made of polycarbonate plastic and have a thickness of seven to eight millimeters only.

Phone Arena wrote that the Lumia 940 will feature a 5.2-inch display with a 1440 x 2560 resolution and a 565ppi pixel density. The phone will also include a 64-bit Snapdragon 808 SoC with a hexa-core 1.8 GHz CPU and the Adreno 418 GPU. The device will also include 32GB of expandable internal memory and 3GB of RAM. There is a 20-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front shooter. The Lumia 940 will be powered by a 3000mAh battery with Windows 10 Mobile pre-installed.

The Lumia 940 XL will feature a large 5.7-inch screen with a 1440 x 2560 QHD resolution and a 515ppi pixel density. The smartphone will run on the Snapdragon 810 processor with an octa-core 2GHz CPU with the Adreno 430 GPU. There is also 32GB of expandable internal storage and 3GB of RAM. The 940 XL has a 20-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front shooter and is powered by a 3300mAh battery. The phone is also installed with the Windows 10 Mobile software out of the box.

As for the Lumia 840, Phone Arena also wrote that it is expected to be a midrange phone that features a 5-inch display, a PureView 13-megapixel or 14-megapixel rear shooter and a 5-megapixel front camera. The device will have dual SIM support and a design quite similar to the Lumia 830. The device will be named Lumia 840, despite early talks that the 830 successor will immediately jump to Lumia 850.

GSM Arena revealed that Microsoft is gearing towards producing phone models with on-screen buttons. In the past, Lumias featured capacitive buttons in the bottom bezel, while a poll showed that 44% of users do not actually like the idea of on-screen buttons on a flagship Windows Phone. Users will have to wait later in 2015 to determine whether Microsoft’s concept has several advantages that compelled them to release the feature nevertheless.

More details about the Nokia Lumia 940, 940 XL and 840 are expected in the coming weeks.
