The call to normalize breastfeeding in public will resonate around the world with thousands and thousands of mothers participating in the World Breastfeeding Week 2015 which will run from Aug 1 - 7. Moms from all over the world will breastfeed their little ones in public for one minute in a unified call to support their efforts of breastfeeding and pursuing their careers at the same time.

Most popularly known to mothers as the Big Latch On, the event is held yearly. It was started by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action in 1992 and each year's celebration is held under different themes. For this year, the theme is: "Breastfeeding and Work, Let's Make It Work," TIME reported.

In an official statement from the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action, the group said that this year's event is particularly aimed at calling for concerted global action to "enact imaginative legislation protecting the breastfeeding rights of working women and establish means for its enforcement."

"Whether a woman is working in the formal, non-formal or home setting, she needs to feel sufficiently empowered to claim the right to breastfeed on behalf of both herself and her baby," the statement said.

Breastfeeding has been the subject of worldwide debate with the majority of the people completely clueless of its many benefits. Many celebrities have jumped into the debate in support of breastfeeding. Angelina Jolie, Miranda Kerr, Olivia Wilde, Naomi Watts, Kourtney Kardashian are just few of the many celebrities who made headlines when they shared photos of themselves while breastfeeding. Perez Hilton has a list of them all.

Many celebrity moms have actually highlighted interesting facts about the mother's milk. Isla Fisher said breastfeeding can help moms to naturally go back to shape after being pregnant.

"I know some women say it doesn't help them lose the weight, but I think it burns an extra 250 calories a day. I breastfed for two years with both my children and by the end of that period I was back to normal," Fisher was quoted as saying by Times Reporter, citing Hello magazine.

Sarah Michelle Gellar also swore by this. She said that breastfeeding helped her transform back into her original size after giving birth in 2009.

Another interesting fact about breastfeeding is that mothers can feed another woman's baby if the need arises. This was proven by Salma Hayek when in 2009 she breastfed a newborn baby in Sierra Leone.

Breastfed babies are more likely to wean themselves than the bottle-fed babies as in the case with Gwen Stefani. Her son Apollo has voluntarily weaned himself from breastfeeding, Stefani said.

The World Health Organization also advised all moms to exclusively breastfeed their babies until six months of age. According to WHO, the mother's milk protects babies from diarrhea and pneumonia as compared to formula milk that does not have the antibodies to fight these diseases. It also protects mothers from developing breast and ovarian cancer. Breastfeeding can also prevent pregnancy at least for the first six months after giving birth.
