One of the nation's biggest retail outlets will be opening early on Thanksgiving Day to kick off the Black Friday holiday season rush.

Walmart will also be opening at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, CNNMoney.com reported Sunday. That's two hours earlier than when the retail giant, with over 4,500 stores and clubs nationwide and more than 200 million customers worldwide, opened their doors last year during Thanksgiving Day 2011.

Customers looking to get a $75 Walmart gift card with the purchase of an Apple iPad 2 have to be in the store and in line between 10 and 11 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

The retail chain already previewed several of their items on sale for Thanksgiving Day last week. Along with the gift card for the iPad 2 (16 gigabytes with Wi-Fi) at the list price of $399, the Thanksgiving night price cuts are for a 32-inch Emerson 720p high definition LCD TV for $148, (an $80 discount) and a $38 Blu-ray player.

Duncan Mac Naughton, Walmart's chief merchandising and marketing officer in the U.S., says many of Walmart's Black Friday changes this year are geared towards helping their customers find the right deals for their customers.

"We know it's frustrating for customers to shop on Black Friday and not get the items they want," he said in a statement on the company's web site. "This year, for the first time ever, customers that shop during Walmart's one-hour event will be guaranteed to have three of the most popular items under their tree at a great low price."

In addition, the retail giant will be hosting a series of in-store specials; its sale at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day Nov. 22, then its big electronics event at 10 p.m. and "a weekend full of savings" starting at 5 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 23.

Among the items that customers can find during the 8 p.m. Thanksgiving sale include:

  • Xbox 360® 4GB + SkyLandersTM Bundle - $149
  • WiiTM Console- $89
  • More than 100 video games priced at $10, $15 or $25 each
  • Top Toys of the Season: Leappad® 1.0 Learning Tablet ($65) and Furby® ($45)
