It is exactly two months since the iPhone 5 made its debut at Apple's September keynote, but it hasn't stopped from speculation on the next Apple smartphone.

According to the Commercial Times newspaper from China, and translated by DigiTimes, a new version of the iPhone 5 is set to start initial production.

The translated report stated, "Facing low yield rates in the production of iPhone 5, Apple has accelerated the certification processes for related parts and components for the iPhone 5S."

The initial production volumes are reported to fall between 50,000 and 100,000 units.

News of another iPad has also surfaced with KGI Securities analysts Ming-Cho Kuo stating potential competition from Microsoft's Surface tablet might trigger Apple to deliver a newer tablet.

"Though the iPad mini is expected to be successful, we think launching the lighter, thinner 9.7" iPad as quickly as possible matters more for Apple strategically," said Kuo, according to Apple Insider.

Apple released their latest iPad, the fourth generation of their tablet series (iPad 4), back in Nov. 2 and is still gradually expanding to other countries. The release of the iPad 4 came only several months after the iPad 3's launch earlier this year.

Nov. 2 also saw the release of the iPad Mini, and just as rumors of the iPhone 5S is already circulating, so is the next installment of the iPad Mini. Reports speculated last week of the next iPad Mini to feature Retina Display and a higher pixel resolution to match the iPad 4, since its current numbers are identical to the iPad 2.
