It's a common trend for mobile phone makers to create and release a mini version of their flagship phone. Most of the time, these smaller versions fall behind when it comes to function and hardware - with the exemption of Sony Xperia Z Compact, according to Phone Arena.

With Samsung's recent release of two flagship phones, Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, rumors of other S6 variants drifted along the Internet superhighway. Such rumors mentioned adjectives such as "active," "edge plus," and "mini." Just recently announced, the S6 Active will soon make its way to consumer's hands. With little information, the "mini" version of the S6 seemed like a mystery.

Phone Arena recently acquired from an avid reader a set of intriguing photos of a mobile device. The pictures in question came with words on the screen that said, "Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini," and on the bottom that said, "Powered by Android." Phone Arena strongly believes that the pictures, albeit blurry, were not falsified in any form. Nonetheless, the information provided by the said pictures should still be approached with caution.

According Forbes, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini will follow the designs of the Galaxy S6. Therefore, the smaller variant would still have a metal frame and glass panels. Like how the S6 disappointed consumers, however, there will be no removable battery and no microSD cars slot. Rumors all around the Internet spoke of a Snapdragon 808 SoC, 2 GB of RAM, 4.6" or 4.7" screen with 720p resolution and a 15 MP camera.

Samsung's teasers and slow announcement and release of flagship phone variants could be part of their big plan to dominate the iPhone 7. Both companies have had the a few encounters in the past. Notably, last year proved to be a shortcoming for Samsung while Apple rose to the top.

If and when the Korean manufacturer decide to release the Samsung Galaxy S6 variants is still a mystery. Other than the S6 Active, there's little news about the mini. There are only speculations to the release date of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini. Recent reports stated that Samsung will unveil the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and the S6 Edge plus, which is the bigger variant of the S6 Edge, on August 13. Hopefully, if the S6 Mini gets announced on the same day, then it should hit the marketplace as soon as possible.

Keep posted for more updates and news on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini.
