The mystery surrounding the slated standalone 'Batman' movie in which Ben Affleck is set to star, write and possible direct has started to generate rumors around the net concerning its details. One such detail released is that of the main villain of the film.

Tech Times reports that from the trailer of the upcoming "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" trailer, there are several hints that the villain could be none other than the former Robin himself, Jason Todd.

For those who are not familiar with the character, Jason Todd was the second person to take on the mantle of Batman's sidekick, Robin. This happened after the original Robin, Dick Grayson, left Batman to have his own life as a masked superhero. However, the relationship between Batman and the new Robin was a rocky one as Jason did not react to the life of crime fighting in the same way as Grayson.

After several years of being the boy wonder, fans were growing increasingly tired of Jason Todd. In a poll decided by the fans, DC comics decided to kill off the character. Jason Todd met his doom in the hands of the Joker after being viciously beaten. He was then caught in an explosion in which Batman was unable to rescue him on time. For years, the death of Jason Todd haunted Batman and after several large DC comics multi-verse events, the second Robin came back from the dead as the Red Hood.

Now, how does this tie in with the movies that fans are dying to see? According to Realty Today, several hints in the trailer all point to Jason Todd's big screen debut. First is the Robin costume, which was defaced by the Joker before he killed Todd, was on prominent display in the Batcave. This signals that Todd was, in fact, Robin sometime before the movie. Second, Bruce Wayne, not Batman, received a note during the trailer saying, "You let your family die." This is quite significant because Batman regards his team as family and only those within the group know of the secret identities each of them holds. This means that someone who knows Batman's secrets sent him the letter.

While it is speculated that the character may even make it into the "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" movie, details surrounding Jason Todd remain unclear. Currently, the stand alone Batman movie has not yet seen production, but it has been reported that it is scheduled for a November 2018 release.
