A new tiny phone is coming soon. The device started as a Kickstarter project and is said to feature a number of specs that might attract potential users, including a 90-day standby time.

Based on the Janus One Kickstarter site, the project intends to simplify the user’s life in a smart way. The device was originally called the Light Phone, which was 85%-funded on Kickstarter. Users can receive an unlocked model for $100, Phone Arena reported. The package also includes a pre-paid SIM containing 500 minutes of talk time, a micro-USB charger and the app that links to the smartphone.

The Janus One can make and receive calls, function as a connected dialer for an existing smartphone or work as a battery backup to a smartphone. It is also water-resistant, can serve as a pedometer and become a companion to a smartphone with Bluetooth capability. Users may be most impressed with the dimensions of the Janus One. It has the same size as a credit card and is only 5.5-mm thin. The GSM phone can also manage SMS messaging. The product comes in three colors – black, white and gold.

Furthermore, the product claims to have a standby time of 90 days with its 1,500mAh battery. It can also be used for calling, providing about 12 hours of talk time. It can be used as a USB-power bank, charging a dead smartphone up to about 64 percent battery capacity. The phone can also store 500 contact numbers and includes a small screen to show phone numbers or text messages. The Janus One does not have a lot of features, so users may benefit the most by using it as a device for calling or to supplement their current smartphone.

ZDNet revealed, however, that there are some issue if users intend to use the Janus One as their main voice device. The product has its own SIM card, which will translate to the user having two phone numbers. One will be for the Janus One while the other will be for the existing smartphone.

Users can start reserving a Janus One phone for $69 on Kickstarter with shipping included. Adding $10 will provide a SIM card which will allegedly work with T-Mobile service and feature 30 minutes of talk time for 90 days. The China-based team is planning to begin shipping the phone in September 2015. More news and updates about the Janus One are expected in the coming weeks.
