Good news for techies and consumers alike as the 2016 MacBook Air release date may have been revealed online if the reports and rumors are to be believed.

According to Arash Fehkri of Master Herald, Apple is allegedly planning to beat Microsoft by releasing the 2016 MacBook Air to compete with the Surface Pro 4.

In a previous report, it was noted that Microsoft is planning to release the Surface Pro 4 this month and according to Master Herald, this does not sit well with Apple and they're looking to counter Microsoft by launching the 2016 MacBook Air by October 2015.

However, Master Herald notes that while Apple is allegedly planning to launch 2016 MacBook Air on October, they may have to wait until March 2016 to release the laptop to the markets.

The delayed release of the 2016 MacBook Air could be caused by its need to be powered by Skylake Intel Processors.

Master Herald reported that the Intel Core M-based Skylake processors that would allegedly be used on the 2016 MacBook Air would only be made available in mass quantity late this year thus effectively halting Apple's plan of releasing the 2016 MacBook Air this year.

But what can you expect from the 2016 MacBook Air?

Mark Yapching of Vine Report has reported on the expected specs of the 2016 MacBook Air and if these rumored specs of the device be deemed true, then users are in for a treat.

Yapching reports that the 2016 MacBook Air will have the brand-new Intel Core-M Skylake processor which is expected to perform better the previous Broadwell processors of the previous generation.

The 2016 MacBook Air is also expected to have a 4K Retina display and that 13 and 15 inch variants of the device could be sold by Apple.

It can also be expected that the 2016 Macbook Air may have a reversible Type USB-C port and that the USB-C Port will have Lightning and MagSafe features.

The report also notes that it could theoretically be possible for the 2016 MacBook Air to feature wireless charging, it was reported that Apple has abandoned the technology to work on the MagSafe style option for the laptop.

With Microsoft trying to get back their glory with Surface Pro 4 and Apple trying to win more users, it would be interesting to see who would be the brand of choice for consumers come 2016.
