The world's oldest person, Susanna Mushatt Jones, turned 116 on Monday and now holds the Guinness record for the oldest person in the world.

According to Yahoo, Jones was born in Alabama on July 6,1899 and was the third of eleven children. Reports indicate that Jones' parents were share croppers and her grandparents were slaves.

In a book written about her by a family member, titled "Susannah Our Incredible 114-Year Old Aunt," Jones had lived a fulfilling life and is proud of every day of it. The book tells that Jones indentifies herself as mostly African-American but also has some Native American ancestry.

ABC reports that after graduating high school Jones soon moved north to New Jersey and then to New York in 1922. It was here that Jones found work as a housekeeper and as a child care provider. Jones retired in 1965 and accounts that her secret is living a clean life, no smoking or drinking, and lots of beauty sleep. Jones never had children but does lots of family to keep her company. Her extended family includes over 100 nephews and nieces. There are no records on what happened to Jones' husband and many believe him to be deceased.

Jones is the third consecutive American to hold the title of the World's Oldest Person. Jones inherited the title from Jeralean Talley of Michigan who died June 17, 2015; Talley was also 116 years old. The second oldest person currently is Emma Morano-Martinuzzi, who is 115 years old and is currently living in Italy.

Currently, Jones is in a nursing home and receives the best care possible. She has lost her eyesight and has difficulty hearing according to the staff at the nursing home at which Jones stays. While she is blind and hard of hearing she is not bed bound nor does she need more than one or two medications a day, reports the staff.

"T" as she is commonly known as by her family has been quoted that the best secret to a long life and happiness is surrounding myself with positive energy.

It seems that her secret works as Jones is to have two parties this year, one is to be on Monday July 6, 2015 for just family; while the second is to be on Tuesday July 7, 2015 at her public housing community with friends, neighbors, and officials. One thing is for certain; it's going to be a hard task finding enough space for all those birthday candles.
