Was the "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice" movie planned long before we even clamored for the epic DC Comics superhero face off?

The upcoming film, slated for a 2016 release, appeared to have been teased on the 2007 flick "I Am Legend," which was released about 8 years before the current film even went into production.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted the "Batman vs Superman" logo in a scene of the Will Smith starrer, sparking suggestions that the superhero flick had probably been in gestation for a long time.

"A scene from 2007's 'I Am Legend' - set in a long-abandoned Times Square - contained a fleeting glimpse of a billboard for an imaginary Batman-Superman movie," Yahoo! Movies noted.

If you look closely at the billboard in the Times Square scene, you will notice that the date "05.15.10" inscribed at the bottom. This apparently suggests that the "Batman v Superman" film was planned for a 2010 release.

This easter egg has since been explained by "I Am Legend" director Francis Lawrence himself.

"He did not know Warner Brothers was going to use that logo for 'Batman v Superman,'" Collider revealed. "The logo was included in I am Legend because the producer and writer, Akiva Goldsman, wrote an early draft of a Batman/Superman film."

"We thought, 'Hey, what movies would it be fun to have up on the screen when the plague hit?'" Comic Book Resources quoted him as saying. His conversation with Goldsman then spurred him to use the failed draft concept and put it in the film.

Lawrence also revealed that he had not even hired or assigned a specific person to do the Batman/Superman poster or even gone to the proper channels to have the inclusion of the logo in the movie approved, although he was later told it was alright to use it in "I Am Legend," as both movies are Warner Bros. productions.

Recently, it's been announced that the "Batman vs Superman" cast, including its director Zack Snyder, will be heading to the 2015 International Comic-Con in San Diego, California. The evnet will begin on July 9 and end on July 12 this year.

"WB's Hall H panel will be on Saturday, July 11 from 10:30am - 12:00pm and will feature a "a 'sneak peek' at a few upcoming releases from Warner Bros," ScreenRant said.

"This year Warner Bros. is bringing the film's director Zack Snyder back, as well as Batman Ben Affleck, Superman Henry Cavill and Wonder Woman Gal Gadot. All four were present at the studio's panel last summer, but this time they'll have their fellow castmates in tow: Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons and Holly Hunter," Deadline added.
