With the second-generation Moto G going on sale, is its successor coming very soon?

Price cuts to current models of smartphones generally are taken to be signs that a newer iteration is about to be rolled out. And with the Moto G (2014) going on sale, observers are speculating that a new edition of the smartphone is forthcoming.

"The Moto G (2014) has been nicely-priced since its inception, and thanks to a discount at Amazon, the device can now be snagged for the sum of just $139.99," Phone Arena said. "This limited-time offer equates to $40 off the usual $179.99 price point, and if you're willing to forgo 4G LTE and contend with the bare-bones RAM offering, it's a steal."

Considering that the same unit was previously sold in December at $149.99, which is its lowest price offering until now, the current price cut makes one of Motorola's best budget phone a great buy.

However, this sale may also urge prospective buyers to think twice about taking advantage of the price cut and probably wait for the newer version to come out. At the same time, the specs of Moto G (2014) make it a great low-priced phone that's worth your buck even with the arrival of the 2015 edition.

"You don't get LTE or a CDMA version, but you do get a near clean Lollipop install with some of Motorola's improvements on top. It makes for a perfect smartphone for average users (hey, Father's Day is coming up!), a great backup phone if you already have a high-end device as a daily driver, or a second device you can tinker with and install plenty of custom ROMs and mods on," Android Police suggested.

The offer is only for a limited time and will expire in 8-12 hours, so if you're thinking of getting a Moto G (2014), get it ASAP.

"With a 5-inch, 720 x 1280 display, it's essentially a larger version of the Moto E range. Under the hood, you get a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, allied to an 8-megapixel main shooter and a 2-megapixel offering for selfies. Out of the box, the Moto G (2014) packs 8GB of storage, which doesn't give too much room for manoeuvre, but as with most of Motorola's handsets, you can expand by means of the microSD slot," Phone Arena described.

Further, rumors of the Moto G 2015 continue to emerge, although Motorola has not issued a confirmation of the release of such an iteration. However, it's expected that the company will announce it and other upcoming products "between the second and third quarters of 2015," Christian Today said.
