Could McDreamy ever be replaced? According to the showrunners of "Grey's Anatomy," he can!

So, who's the new guy playing Dr. Derek Shepherd? According to TVLine, he's Martin Henderson, a "New Zealand-born actor, best known Stateside as the male lead in Shonda Rhimes' short-lived 2011 medical drama 'Off the Map.'"

But of course, the replacement should be someone show creator Rhimes knows - and apparently looks like Patrick Dempsey too. Plus, he's played a doctor in the past.

"An ABC rep confirmed Henderson's casting, but declined to provide further details," the entertainment news portal added.

Before Henderson landed a plum spot on the hit medical drama series, he "found fame working in his home country of New Zealand on hospital drama 'Shortland Street' from 1992-1995, before moving to Australia where he starred in soap operas 'Echo Point' and 'Sweat,'" MailOnline revealed.

"He continued gaining acclaim in Australia, working on series 'Big Sky' and 'Home and Away,' earning an AFI nomination for his work on the film 'Kick,'" the publication added. "Most recently he starred in the original Australian series 'Secrets and Lies' - which was remade by ABC - and Sundance Channel's drama 'The Red Road.'"

If he is indeed to fill in McDreamy's shoes, how will Rhimes pull that off? It can be recalled that Derek was killed off in season 11, where an episode showed him figuring in a vehicular accident that left him brain dead. Wife Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) had to eventually sign the papers that allowed staff to turn off the heartthrob doc's life support.

We'll just see how they'll settle Henderson in the world of "Grey's Anatomy" in the upcoming season.

Further, some may find Henderson a familiar face as he had figured in entertainment news headlines after being romantically linked to actress Demi Moore back in 2012.

"Demi and Martin - who is 12 years her junior at 37 - stayed at a vacation home together," MailOnline noted in an earlier piece, saying that the couple was spotted together on a break in Connecticut.

"They went out for romantic lunches and dinners during their holiday and onlookers described Demi as being 'flirty' in his presence and on great form," the publication added.

The pair's time together didn't last, though, with New Zealand Woman's Weekly saying that Moore reportedly went on a "complete meltdown" in the wake of their split.

Sounds like we've got another certified heartthrob on our hands.
