A week after Hurricane Sandy ravaged New York and New Jersey and residents continue to work together to recover from the storm's damage. Latinos Post rounds up the latest information regarding volunteering and donation needs. 

Those wishing to make monetary donations to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy can donating to the American Red Cross by visiting redcross.org, calling 1-800-733-2767, or texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. The American Red Cross is also accepting blood donations. You can visit their website or call 1-800-RED CROSS to schedule a blood donation.

NYC | Brooklyn | Staten Island:

In the Rockaways, organizers are asking volunteers to head to St. Gertude (B38 and Beach Channel Dr.). Volunteers must bring waterproof shoes, latex gloves, flashlights and shovels. There is a need for volunteers with cars filled with gas.

According to Occupy Sandy, supplies most needed in the Rockaways include: generators, extension cords/strip cords, lights to plug in, cleaning supplies, flashlights and batteries. Volunteers can also head to the American Legion located at 209 Cross Bay Blvd.

In Brooklyn, the Council of Jewish Émigré Community Organizations is asking volunteers to head to 2770 West 5th Street (Community Room) at 10:30 am. Volunteers do not need to bring anything other than "enthusiasm" while delivering food to seniors in the area that remain homebound in the upper floors of their buildings. In Red Hook, donations are being requested at Bishop Ford Center Catholic High School. Supplies needed include: water, can food, mops, toothpaste/brushes, deodorant, baby products, garbage bags, paper towels, toilet paper and soaps.

The Red Hook Initiative is also taking volunteers at 402 Van Brunt Street for food delivery, canvassing and other volunteer jobs. For more information, head to the Red Hook Initiative or call 718-858-6782.

In Staten Island, volunteers are needed at Christian Pentacostal (900 Richmond Rd. on the corner of Ralph Pl.) to sort out donations. Volunteers are also needed for clean up crews at the following locations: 599 Father Capadanno Blvd., Oakwood Beach (Guyon Ave/Mill Road), Cedar Grove and Wavecrest, and Grace Bible Church (Mill St. and Guyon).

New Jersey:

In Hoboken, there is an immediate need for volunteers. The City is asking for volunteers to head over to City Hall. People are also encouraged to make monetary donations to the Rebuild Hoboken Relief Fund.

In Jersey City, an Official Hurricane Sandy Volunteer/Donor Opportunity Page has been set up on Facebook. Those looking to volunteer or donate are encouraged to email volunteer@jcnj.org or to contact The Mayor's Action Bureau at 201-547-5563 or 201-547-4900. The City is asking for anyone who has a particular special skill or equipment that could be useful to volunteer. More information can be found on the City's official website.
