NFL News: Anthony Davis Leaving San Francisco 49ers; Bruce Miller Back?

San Francisco 49ers will not be around for the 2015 NFL season, USA Today reported. The move seems like a temporary respite to allow the right tackle veteran to recuperate both mentally and physically.

Davis, 25, however is not completely shutting the door on a return. Having played only seven games last season due to injuries, Davis will temporarily be placed on the retired list of the 49ers.

Davis is set to earn nearly $2.8 million though the NFL vet reportedly plans to repay the unearned bonus money which the team has the right to go after. This was revealed in a report from USA today.

So how long does Davis intend to be out of the NFL scene?

After emphasizing that his move was more of a healing process and not retirement, Davis bared through social medium Twitter that he expects to be back in harness in about a year or two.

But over at the 49ers front, the story seems to be different. According to them, Davis had said he was planning to retire which somehow makes the development leaning on a conflicting predicament. On record, Davis becomes the fourth 49er to retire this offseason after Patrick Willis, Chris Borland and Justin Smith.

"After a few years of thought, I've decided it will be best for me to take a year or so away from the NFL," Davis said in a press release cited on ESPN. "This will be a time for me to allow my Brain and Body a chance to heal. I know many won't understand my decision, that's ok” in a report from

Davis was the 11th overall pick in the 2010 draft. If ever he does make a return, it certainly doesn’t look like he it will be in San Francisco.With his semi-retirement, the 49ers now find themselves having some issues in their offensive line though according to an NFL.com report, head coach Jim Tomsula believes that all that can be addressed in training camp.

In a related development, Davis departure could be somehow offset with the possible return of Bruce Miller, said an AP report.

The 49ers fullback was recently involved in and offseason legal case, a misdemeanor charge which was instigated by an argument between him and his fiancée last March 5.

Miller claims that there was no physical contact though he must attend a 16-week domestic violence counseling course as part of the sentence.

Other than that, Miller has reported back to the 49ers camp and has rejoined the team for organized team activities. Entering his fifth year as a pro, Miller was working out on his own at the Santa Clara area in the offseason and did not take part in the 49ers workout program.

Last year, Miller had 18 catches for 189 yards as well as two touchdowns for the 49ers. Miller received a three-year contract extension last year.
