Boxing star Miguel Cotto is recognized as the "Athlete of the Year." The National Puerto Rican Day Parade which is set for June 14 on New York's Fifth Avenue and it will kick start their festivities with a fight between Cotto and Daniel Geale for the WBC middleweight championship. The fight is scheduled on June 6 at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn.

Apart for being given the recognition as "Athlete of the Year," Boxingscene.com reports that Miguel Cotto Promotions and Roc Nation Sports will be making contributions for the National Puerto Rican Day Parade Scholarship Fund.

"It's a privilege for my June 6 fight against Daniel Geale at Barclays Center in Brooklyn to be named the official kick-off event of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade Week and I want to express my deepest gratitude for being honored me as Athlete of the Year. New York is truly my second home because I have been embraced by its Puerto Rican community. I'm looking forward to seeing my New York fans at Barclays Center on June 6," said Cotto.

COO of Boxing for Roc Nation Sports David Itskowitch also said that they are excited to be part of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade. He added that they want to mirror the support that the Puerto Rican community has given for Cotto throughout his career in boxing.

"Roc Nation Sports and Miguel Cotto Promotions are thrilled to be aligned with the National Puerto Rican Day Parade and to kick off their week of festivities with our event on June 6 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. New York's Puerto Rican community has supported Miguel throughout his career and we look forward to mirroring that support through our scholarship fund contribution and association with the Parade's mission to promote education and empowerment," Itskowitch said.

The National Puerto Rican Day Parade Scholarship Fund was founded to help support and promote higher education within the community.

According to the NPRDP website, the Cottto and Geale fight will take place on a Saturday, June 6, at the Barclays Center. It will be a 12-round fight for Cotto's Ring Magazine and WBC Middleweight World Championship. The boxing match is brought by Roc Nation Sports and Miguel Cotto Promotions in association with Gary Show Productions. The Cotto-Geale match will be broadcasted live on HBO. Ticket prices will be at $500, $350, $250, $200, $150, $100, $50 and $25.
