Tennis star Roger Federer is apparently not fond of selfies, or is simply concerned about the safety of players on the court.

ABC30 reported that Federer was not pleased when a fan approached to take a selfie with him on center court after he won in the first round at the French Open on Sunday, May 24.

Federer said after defeating Alejandro Falla and being approached by the tennis fan, "I'm not happy about it, obviously not one second happy about it. It happened [Saturday] in the practice, too. And today on center court, where you would think this is a place where nobody can come on, just wanders on and nothing happens."

He added, "So I definitely think this is [a change] that something needs to happen quickly. But obviously [I] want this to happen immediately. Normally I only speak on behalf of myself, but in this situation I think I can speak on behalf of all the players, that that's where you do your job, that's where you want to feel safe. But nothing happened, so I'm relieved. But clearly it wasn't a nice situation to be in."

ABC30 revealed that the fan, who was said to be only 14 years old, was later detained with his father. He was ordered not to attend the French Open for the rest of the tournament.

New York Times wrote that Gilbert Ysern, tournament director, apologized to Federer in the locker room. According to Ysern, the incident was due to lack of judgment by the security guards.

Ysern said, "What happened today does not show that the risk level is high. We're talking about an error in judgment. The guards are well prepared. If a guy went running on the court with an aggressive attitude, he would not have made it to the player."

"The court is sacred. It's forbidden at any moment for any reason in any possible context to put so much as a toe on the court. All the spectators should know it," he continued.

ABC30 stated that Federer acknowledged that he and Ysern talked briefly. The tennis star indicated what he thought should happen on the court during the tournament. He said that the necessary steps should be made not only for the French Open but for all tournaments to be played in the following years. Federer shared that safety is a primary concern, so fans should not be allowed to freely enter the court.
