My 5 Favorite Android Apps

After having used the Samsung Galaxy S3 with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for over two months now, I've found that no matter how many apps I download, there's still only a few that I really use and count on. Here's a list of my five favorite Android apps on the smartphone. All of them can be downloaded through the Google Play store.

Google Maps - This one's a no-brainer. Google Maps is the easiest and most robust map app out there. It'll give you directions, traffic routes, and you can scope out the terrain. After watching all my friends with iOS cry out in frustration at Apple Maps, this one is a must-have.

AP Mobile - I'm a news junkie, and so there's two news apps on this list that I always use. The Associated Press app is easy to look at, use, and customize. You can choose which categories to pop on your front page, and there's plenty to browse through, including a personal favorite of mine - Oddities (which used to be called Wacky on my Blackberry Associated Press app).

Bloomberg - News outlet Bloomberg has a great app not only because you get great business and tech news from a reputable source, but because you can also use the app to track the markets. You can even select which stocks you are interested in and create an easy to read list. Sections include Opinion, Most Read, and of course, Technology. 

Temple Run - I probably turned to Temple Run more than any other app while sitting on the subways in New York. A fun game that only involves finger swiping. You are in control of an Indiana Jones-like explorer who is running from demon gorillas because he (or she) stole an artifact. You swipe left and right to turn as he runs, and up makes the character jump, and down slide underneath various obstacles. Great way to pass the time.

Happy Hour - This is a personal favorite of mine that has me surprised more people don't use it. Happy Hours will give you happy hours within your vicinity, listing the drink specials as well as how far the place is located from your current location. If you're looking for a quick drink, there's no better app to turn to.
