Samsung is allegedly planning to add a new model for its Galaxy A Series. The news comes from Phone Arena which reported that the new handset would be called Samsung Galaxy A8 (with model number SM-A800F). Cited in the report as main source was an exclusive report from Sam Mobile.

Sam Mobile citing its unidentified source said that the rumored Galaxy A8 device would be "one of the most feature-packed mid-range smartphones" from the Korean giant. Why is that? It is because it is the first non-flagship Galaxy phone to get a 16-megapixel main camera. This is aside from the 5 megapixel selfie shooter it is expected to get. "It certainly looks like Samsung is taking the camera resolution game a step further even in the mid-range category," Sam Mobile's Abhijeet M. said.

The Samsung Galaxy A8 is also said to be the largest Galaxy A device as it would have a 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display. Despite this size, it is said to be only 5.9 mm thin. (The alleged full dimensions are 157.7×76.7×5.9 mm.) Its weight is said to be at 140 grams.

It is also said to get a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor. As for memory, the device is expected to get 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It is still unknown whether it would have a microSD card slot. As for the software, it is expected that it would run an Android 5.0.1 version with Samsung's new TouchWiz UX. It would also get a large battery -- a 3,050 mAh one.

"As usual, we cannot guarantee that all of this information will turn out to be true, since things can always change as the phone's development proceeds further. The biggest question here is whether the Galaxy A8 will make it to markets outside China. It certainly looks to be an impressive smartphone, and it would be a shame if its availability stays limited to only one region," Sam Mobile added.

Sam Mobile was also the first one to report about this alleged device. A month ago, the news outlet reported that the Korean giant filed for trademarks for Galaxy A6, Galaxy A8, and Galaxy A9.

"Going by the device names, it's likely the A7, A8 and A9 will have specs that are better than the Galaxy A3, A5 and A7 that are currently available as part of the Galaxy A series. We can expect to see metallic builds and a better price to specifications ratio on the three devices; it bears mentioning that these trademarks won't necessarily convert into actual products, and there's also no telling when these phones - if they exist - will be made available for sale," it added.
