Here is the latest update about the upcoming "Power Rangers" movie reboot!

According to the latest report of Master Herald, Lionsgate and Saban Brands are planning to tap Dean Israelite to be the director of the much-awaited "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" Reboot Movie. It noted that Israelite is a "huge fan" of the franchise himself. Empire Online said Israelite is known for his work "Project Almanac."

Master Herald said Lionsgate and Saban initially eyed Roberto Orci to be the director of the movie. He however quit in November as he reportedly accepted the directorial job for "Star Trek 3." The news outlet also said that Isrelite seems to be the perfect choice for the job.

"Israelite seeks to bring a fresh voice to the Power Rangers franchise. He has been asked to direct several Hollywood films in the past but he has been very selective with his projects, preferring instead to take the right one."

"He believes that 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' is the right movie for him and he is also positive that he can get strong results from it as he has shown in the limited budget for the original sci-fi movie 'Project Almanac'," to quote the report written by Kazem Sedighzadeh.

Movie Pilot earlier listed some possible actors who could be included in the movie's cast list. It said that veteran actor Morgan Freeman could be Zordon; Lena Headey could be Rita Repulsa; Emma Watson as Kimberly Hart; Freddie Highmore as Billy Cranston; Malese Jow as Trini Kwan; Ray Fischer as Zack Taylor; Jack O'Connell as Jason Lee Scott; and Luke Pasqualino as Tommy Oliver.

The upcoming "Power Rangers" movie reboot is set to premiere on theaters in July 2016. Screen Rant said the movie is produced by Brian Casentini, Allison Shearmur, and Haim Saban and the script is being written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, who both earlier worked on "Thor" and "X-Men: First Class."

According to the movie synopsis provided by Screen Rant, the upcoming movie is "a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world."

Master Herald said the first Power Rangers movie called "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" was released in 1995. It earned $66 million worldwide. The second one called "Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie" meanwhile only grossed $9.6 million worldwide.
