Adrian Peterson is set to meet with the NFL on April 7 to discuss his future with the Minnesota Vikings.

Fox Sports reported that the running back was previously suspended due to the child abuse allegations against him involving his son. He allegedly injured his four-year-old boy while punishing him with a switch. He pled no-contest to avoid jail time and reduce his misdemeanor charge. He was kept off the field from September 2014 until at least April 15, 2015 for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.

He was also ordered to meet with Dr. April Kuchuk for his counseling and treatment program. Peterson appealed the penalty meted out on him but was denied by arbitrator Harold Henderson.

The NFL Players Association on Peterson's behalf brought the case to court with Judge David Doty ruling that Henderson's denial must be voided. While the child abuse case was pending, Peterson was put on the special exempt list.

The NFL and Peterson's agent, Ben Dogra, did not comment on the meeting.

AZ Central reported that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell mentioned that Peterson may return to the active roster on April 15.

Goodell said, "We're going to continue the evaluation. We'll have our people, and I expect to meet with Adrian before we make a final determination on his status, but we expect to keep that timetable."

Even after the NFL meeting, Peterson still has to iron out his issues with the Minnesota Vikings. Earlier in March 2015, his agent stated that the running back no longer wanted to play in Minnesota. However, coach Zimmer and the rest of the team still expects him to be in the lineup when the 2015 NFL season opens. They expect him to honor his contract, where he is set to earn over $40 million while playing three more years with the Vikings. NLF.com reported that the Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys may be likely destinations for Peterson if the Vikings decide to let him go.

Dallas News reported that on the "Dan Patrick Show", Tim Cowlishaw revealed that the Dallas Cowboys are very interested in getting Peterson. The Cowboys might try to convince the Vikings to part with Peterson, because Zimmer seems to still want him around. The Vikings are set to pay him over $12 million in the upcoming season, which is quite hefty, but the Cowboys are willing to bet on such sum if it means that they have a chance to be on the winning side in the next three years.
