Which is more powerful -- Moto G (2015) or Moto G (2014)?

Android Pit said that the difference between the two is quite little, calling the 2015 device a "slight improvement to a proven formula." Why is that? It noted that the only upgrade this new handset got is its battery and 4G-capability.

Design

As far as design is concerned, the new Moto G (2015) looks just like its predecessor. Android Pit noted that the device is available in all-black and all-white colors. But fashionable users could always style them up with Motorola's cases. Again, the design is simple and very neat and classy-looking. Moto G (2015) has a 5 inches display with a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, similar to what the 2014 version has.

Both the 2014 and 2015 versions have the same dimensions 141.5 x 70.7 x 11 mm (5.57 x 2.78 x 0.43 in). As for the weight, the 2015 version is heavier at 155 grams compared with the 149 grams of the 2014 version.

Memory

Both devices are available on 8GB and 16 GB variants. Both devices also have 1 GB RAM and both also have microSD slot which could expand the device's memory up to 32 GB.

Processor

Both devices are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU and Adreno 305.

Software

Moto G (2015) has the latest Android L 5.0 Lollipop update while the (2014) variant has the version 4.4.4 KitKat but it can be upgraded to Android L. Android Pit noted that the 2013 Moto G also has the same processor.

Camera

Both the Moto G (2015) and Moto G (2014) have an 8-megapixel main camera with LED flash, auto focus, and 4X digital zoom. Plus it also has a 2 megapixel front camera.

"The 8MP camera on the Moto G 4G (2015) isn't spectacular, but software features like HDR go some way to making up for the mediocre hardware. It's not better or worse than we'd expect at this price, however, and we really like the camera software, which is very intuitive. Simply swipe up and down to zoom in and out, tap anywhere on the screen to take a picture, and swipe in from the left and right to access the Settings and Gallery. It may not appease advanced smartphone photographers, but it's great for taking quick and easy pictures," Android Pit said in its review.

As for video capture, the the device is capable of taking 720p HD videos at 30 frames per second.

Battery

Aside from the 4G capability, the new variant has a bigger 2390 mAh battery. "While not the most spectacular upgrade, we did get a good day-and-a-half of moderate use out of it," Android Pit said.
