There's a new breed of budget phones out there - slick, efficient handsets that let you engage in a satisfying mobile experience without costing you an arm and a leg. And in style, too.

With the recent crop of wallet-friendly smartphones, we can't help comparing them in a bid to pinpoint the best of the lot. This time, we're taking the second generation Moto G and Moto E and pitting them against the Lumia 640 XL, which PC World called "a poor man's Lumia 1520 phablet."

Memory

The Moto G has built-in 16 GB memory and 1 GB of RAM, while the Moto E has 8 GB and 1 GB of RAM. The Lumia 640 XL, although equipped with only 8 GB of memory and 1 GB of RAM, can hold up to 128 GB with its expandable storage. Both Motorola handsets can hold only up to 32GB via microSD, as also compared by SmartPrix.

Engine

"Both the Moto G 4G LTE 2nd gen and Lumia 640 XL LTE have a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor and Adreno 305 graphics," Phones Review compared. The Moto E also happens to have the same specs in this department as the Moto G.

However, when it comes to battery, the Lumia 640 XL trumps the Motorola handsets with its 3000 mAH, Li-on battery. Moto G only has 2070 mAh, while Moto E's capacity is just 2390 mAH.

Display

If you think bigger is better, Microsoft's product is a winner at 5.7 inches. The other two are smaller at 4.5 inches (Moto E) and 5 inches (Moto G). However, Moto G's display registers at 720 x 1280 pixels with 294 PPO, while the Lumia only has 258 PPI, but with the same 720 x 120 pixel resolution. Moto E trails behind with 540 x 960 pixels and 245 PPI.

Camera

"The Moto G has an 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and 720p video capture, as well as a 2-megapixel front-facing unit. The Lumia 640 XL has a 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, and 1080p video capture, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera," Phones Review said. Moto E's front camera is mere VGA quality while the main one is at 5MP with autofocus.

Design

Naturally, the Microsoft model is bigger and heavier at 157.9 x 81.5 x 9 mm and 171 grams, while the Moto G only measures 141.5 x 70.7 x 11 mm and weighs 149 grams, which is lighter than Moto E's 145 grams. However, the Moto E is smaller at 66.8 x 129.9 x 12.3 mm. Interestingly, the Lumia 640 Xl is 18% slimmer than the Moto G and 26% slimmer than the Moto E.

When it comes to the price tag, the Moto E wins at $149.99 without a contract, while the Moto G retails at $179.99 off-contract. The Lumia 640 XL's price range can go as high as $245, according to WinBeta.

So, which one will you pick?
