Dascha Polanco is steadily making a name for herself in the entertainment industry with her various commitments in films and her portrayal of Daya in "Orange is the New Black."

In the recently released Adam Sandler-starrer "The Cobbler," Polanco portrays the character of the abused Macy who wishes to escape cruelty.

When asked about her role in "The Cobbler," the Dominican-American actress shared that the portrayal was "challenging," but it was something that was very relatable for her.

"When it comes to a role like this, that I can relate to on such a delicate subject, it kind of just comes out of me. The portrayal comes very easy... I think everybody can relate to the relationship, and her story," she said, as quoted by Bustle. "There's a lot of layers. Sometimes you have to reference back to your own personal experiences, and opening up the vault of memory sometimes is not good on the soul."

Although Macy's screen time in the movie was only a few minutes, she said she is grateful to have gotten a role with so much depth. She also hopes to use her career to give her fellow Latino actors a chance to get hired in the entertainment industry, Bustle noted.

"I'm part of the change," Polanco explained, as reported by the news outlet. "That's the change that has to happen, when you become part of the change and you're actually doing something about it... one of my goals is to provide opportunity for more diversity, more minorities... when you look at America, I'm not looking at what I'm seeing on TV. That's not the America that I see."

Polanco is also set to star alongside Jennifer Lawrence in awards contender film "Joy." According to Deadline, the plot will center on "the remarkable life story of Mangano, a struggling Long Island single mom of three who became one of the country's most successful entrepreneurs with her self-wringing Miracle Mop invention."

David O. Russell will direct, with Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, and Edgar Ramirez also starring, Deadline reported.
