The latest version of Google's Android operating system, Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, began hitting Google-branded devices last week. The Nexus 7 tablet was one of the first to receive the incremental upgrade, and now it looks like owners of GSM Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S smartphones are receiving their Android 4.1.2 update.
aKeep in mind that only GSM-based Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S smartphones are receiving the update. The CDMA versions will get their Android 4.1.2 a little later.

To upgrade your phone, make sure Wi-Fi is turned on, since it's an over-the-air update straight from Google.

Android 4.1.2 isn't a major overhaul to Jelly Bean, but rather an incremental upgrade. The home pages can now be viewed in landscape mode, so that you can rotate your device for easier access.

The new "Location Access" page will make those concerned with their privacy happy since one can simply disable location access with a simple finger swipe.

The folks over at AndroidPolice also noticed that long text messages shouldn't be converted into MMS, and that the touch buttons for 'Back,' 'Home,' and 'Recent' seem to glow brighter.

On top of that, Android 4.1.2 will introduce the basic bug fixes and performance improvements that software updates usually entail.

Android 4.1.2 is also available on the Motorola XOOM tablet - another device developed with Google's blessing. Samsung Galaxy S3 owners are still patiently waiting for their official Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update, but if you're willing to put up with the risk, there is an unofficial Android 4.1.2 ROM available from RootBox.

Let us know if the Android 4.1.2 update has hit your device and where you are located.
