"San Andreas" is set to premiere on May 29.
"San Andreas" is a natural disaster movie set in California. The story revolves around a magnitude 9 earthquake that hits the west coast. The film stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who takes on the role of Ray, a rescue-chopper pilot who goes out to protect his ex-wife, played by Carla Gugino and estranged daughter, played by Alexandra Daddario, based on a report by Screenrant.
Other members of the cast include Paul Giamatti, Ion Gruffudd, Archie Panjabi, Will Yun Lee and Coltron Haynes.
Carlton Cuse is responsible for the final shooting script, while the screen story was written by Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore. Brad Peyton will be the director of the movie. Peyton previously worked with Johnson in "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island", and is rumored to work together again for "Journey 3". Beau Flynn will produce the movie while the executive producers are Richard Brener, Samuel J. Brown, Rob Cowan, Tripp Vinson, Michael Disco and Bruce Berman, based on a report by SlashFilm.
Forbes reported that a new poster and trailer have already been released for "San Andreas". In the trailer, a giant tsunami was one of the captivating scenes, which generally appears as an aftershock of giant earthquakes. No footage of the actual earthquake has been featured in the trailer so far but in the poster, The Rock can be seen battling through rocks amidst the chaos of crumbled buildings and ripped earth.
The movie gives reference to the San Andreas Fault, which gives in and causes the havoc in the city.
The movie is expected to be an exciting one, taking viewers on a thrilling ride as they experience the devastating effects of a massive earthquake right in their movie seats. It is also likely that the film will partly focus on the melodramatic in some parts, particularly featuring Johnson's strained relationship and reunion with his family as he attempts to save them.
The movie had a budget of $100 million and is expected to rake in over $300 million at the worldwide box office, based on the same report by Forbes. The film will be available in 2D and 3D but not IMAX. The presence of Dwayne Johnson plus the concept will be a huge pull for the movie.
Business Insider reported that the new "San Andreas" poster is strikingly similar to the posters of other great movies, using the cut out design. Namely, "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Star Trek Into Darkness" also showed a similar theme.
