Nokia could be secretly developing a new Android smartphone after a Nokia 1100 was traced running on an Android L 5.0 Lollipop OS, as reported by GSM Arena.

"Recently there has been some movement on the Nokia front with the Android-powered N1 tablet selling out by the truck-load in mere seconds," the site noted.

This new discovery is exciting, especially when the benchmark reported the device was running on a quad-core processor, according to NDTV.

It was tracked by Nokia Power User. Nokia 1100 has been a legendary phone in terms of its functionality and durability. Since Nokia is restricted by the Microsoft deal, they could not manufacture any smartphone until their contract ends on the 4th quarter of 2016.

However, this could be an entirely different Nokia 1100 than what the public knew. It is possible that they are just using this name for their smartphone debut.

Nokia 1100 was first launched in 2003 and this has been one of the biggest Nokia sales. It was reportedly owned by more than 250 million worldwide. Nokia even claimed that the Nokia 1100 was the "world's most popular phone."

Last year, Nokia bypassed their agreement with Microsoft after revealing the Nokia N1 tablet. The Finnish company has impressed the critics with this new smartphone as it was dubbed the "iPad mini 'clone' you'll want to buy," by BGR.

The Nokia N1 was launched at the Mobile World Congress. It has already shipped in China and is expected to be sold at about $249, according to NDTV.

Nokia partnered with Foxconn in developing this tablet. It is made of a "single block of aluminum and there are no seams or joints." It is comparable with the iPhone, in terms of the design and it is offered in two colors: Lava Grey and Natural Aluminum. It does not offer any micro SD slots so the storage is not expandable. At 6.9 mm thickness, it only weighs 318 grams. The side buttons and the corner camera screams of Apple design, but it also draws some inspiration from the Nokia N9.

Nokia N1 tablet has an Intel Atom Z3580 processor that clocks at 2.3 GHz. It has a 2GB RAM. It has an 8MP rear camera and a 2048 x 1536 pixels screen. Currently, it only offers 32GB of storage but it is reported that Nokia has plans on expanding the hardware when they launch the product to the other parts of the world.
