A small waist is the envy of most, if not all, women.

However, a tiny one apparently raises questions even among the members of the female population, as evidenced by the recent hoopla surrounding actress Lily James' appearance in the live-action retelling of "Cinderella."

"When promotional material for Walt Disney Pictures' live-action version of 'Cinderella' dropped in February, many began to question whether the studio had gone too far to make the fairytale princess seem perfect," The Los Angeles Times said. "A trailer featuring star Lily James in Cinderella's baby blue ballgown was roundly criticized online, with many outlets pondering whether Disney had digitally altered the actress' waist to make it appear smaller."

Did Disney wave the veritable digital magic wand over Lily's proportions? In a recent interview, the actress said that no CGI work was done on her waist.

"I naturally have a really small waist," the 25-year-old clarified. "The skirt's big and the corset pulls me in, and that's the point. That's the shape [costume designer] Sandy Powell created."

So, the secret's in the good old corset, then!

Lily also noted that the corset "pulled me into the inch of my life," as noted by ABC News. This makes us wonder how she managed to pull off her scenes despite what sounds like an agonizing state.

However, it can be recalled that the actress is a regular in TV series "Downtown Abbey," which is a period drama that also required her to wear corsets.

"I'm so used to corsets now that feel like I could sleep in them, even though it'd be horrible," she relayed.

She also added that there's even something worse than corsets: a "boob flattener."

"It's much more painful and much more distressing than a corset," Lily confessed. She wore this undergarment in "Downtown Abbey" in order to "match the 1920s setting" of the show.

In an interview with E! News, Lily also revealed that she had to be on a liquid diet while she was wearing the corset.

"When [the corset] was on we would be on continuous days so we wouldn't stop for lunch or a lovely tea like this-you'd be sort of eating on the move," she explained. "In that case, I couldn't untie the corset. So if you ate food it didn't really digest properly and I'd be burping all afternoon in [Richard Madden]'s face, and it was just really sort of unpleasant. I'd have soup so that I could still eat but it wouldn't get stuck."

Fortunately for the actress, the punishing gown was "only used for a small part of filming."

"Cinderella" opens in theaters on March 13.
