Not long after a photo of a weasel hitching a ride on a green woodpecker's back was unleashed on the Internet and became viral, social media users pounced on the opportunity to create yet another meme out of a viral image.

While the original snap is an amusing spectacle in itself, some netizens managed to milk out more entertainment value out of it by adding something extra into the photo.

One shows Miley Cyrus riding on the flying duo, in a hilarious tribute to her "Wrecking Ball" track. "I came in like a #WeaselPecker," read the tweet. Another, shared by @fourfoxache, showed a naked Miley hanging on a wrecking ball hanging from the bird's beak, while Madonna rode on the weasel in the infamous "matador" outfit she wore when she tripped at the recent Brit awards this year.

Another version showed The Rock in all his muscly glory riding on the flying tandem.

Then there's one of Russian President Vladimir Putin riding the creatures sans top, as tweeted by @sklueche.

Another version featuring the Russian leader has a Star Wars theme, with the controversial politician being chased by a Stormtrooper, as tweeted by @msteeman.

John Travolta was not spared - the actor is enjoying a new round of meme fever in the wake of that "awkward" Oscars smooch as another #WeaselPecker photo, tweeted by @elliotwagland, has the man Photoshopped into the image, making him appear to give the weasel a kiss.

There's also one showing Gandalf riding on the woodpecker in place of the weasel, tweeted by @DrKimShepherd.

Of course, the recently viral white-gold/blue-black dress has also been mashed up with this newly viral photo, with the outfit riding on the bird.

"What do you see? Weasel and woodpecker or white and gold?" the accompanying tweet asked.

The viral image was taken by amateur photographer Martin Le-May, who took the picture while out for a walk with his wife.

"As we walked we heard a distressed squawking and I saw that flash of green," he recounted to The London Evening Standard. "So hurriedly I pointed out to Ann the bird and it settled into the grass behind a couple of small silver birch trees."

"Just after I switched from my binoculars to my camera the bird flew across us and slightly in our direction; suddenly it was obvious it had a small mammal on its back and this was a struggle for life," he continued.

He went on to say that their presence somehow distracted the weasel for a moment. This was helpful for the bird as it took this opportunity to escape.

"The woodpecker left with its life, the weasel just disappeared into the long grass, hungry," he concluded.

According to Mammal Society chief executive Marina Pacheco, it is possible that weasels would prey on a woodpecker as "they've got a high metabolism and they've got to eat a lot," although they don't normally go after green woodpeckers.

"It looks like it tried to grab the neck of the woodpecker to break it," Pacheco told CNN. "I think that it probably doesn't have a big enough jaw to bite through the spine of the woodpecker."
