Fans of "Finding Nemo" were naturally overjoyed at the news that a sequel will be made, even though it took about 10 years for the makers of the flick to green light the follow up.

"Finding Dory" has since been given a 2016 release date, despite being initially slated for a 2015 playdate. However, recent rumors have it that the movie, which has funnywoman Ellen DeGeneres reprising her role as the forgetful fish, may be released earlier than announced.

"Rumors directed by fans point out that the trailer will come out anytime now, and will be released sooner than people think," KpopStars said.

This report, however, has not been confirmed yet. The film's trailer has yet to be released.

The sequel was announced nearly two years ago, this time focusing on Dory, "the memory-impaired blue tang fish who helped Marlin find his son in the previous film," as noted by Christian Post.

Aside from DeGeneres, the movie's cast will also include Willem Dafoe, Albert Brooks, Idris Elba, Ty Burrell, and Dominic West. According to Christianity Daily, Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy have reportedly signed on as well.

"They will be playing Jenny and Charlie respectively, and fans believe they will most likely be voicing Dory's parents," the site said.

"Finding Nemo" director Andrew Stantion will also return to helm the sequel.

It was previously revealed that the setting for "Finding Dory" is anywhere but the ocean.

"The movie will mainly take place in the Marine Biology Institute of California, a huge complex of rehabilitation for marine life," Hollywood Life said. "Dory learns that she was born and raised there before she was released in the ocean when she was a kid. We will meet some new characters, like an octopus, sea lions and a beluga whale!"

The film will then be all about Dory, Merlin, and Nemo searching for Dory's parents and more information about her past.

DeGeneres had the honor of announcing the sequel in April 2013, saying that she has waited for "a long, long, long, long, long, long time" to do part 2.

"I'm not mad it took this long. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating Toy Story 16. But the time they took was worth it," she revealed. "The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It's got a lot of heart, it's really funny, and the best part is-it's got a lot more Dory."

Right now, the official release date is still June 17, 2016. Whether this would be rolled back to an early date remains to be seen. Keep checking this space for updates!
