Academy Award-winning actress Marion Cotillard will be joining her "Macbeth" co-star Michael Fassbender in the film adaptation of the popular video game series "Assassin's Creed."
According to the exclusive report of Deadline, the French actress has indeed agreed to star in the new film. Although it has not yet been revealed who she's going to play, it is expected that her role would continue to appear in the succeeding "Assassin's Creed" sequels.
Screen Rant thinks that Fassbender's role would be Michael Lynch, a death row inmate who undergoes Animus experiments. Cotillard, on the other, could play the role of Lara, an assassin ally of Michael, it added.
Meanwhile, Tech Times says Fassbender would probably play the role of assassin Altair while Cotillard portrays Altair's love interest and wife, Maria Thorpe. It noted that Thorpe is originally a member of the Templar Order but later joins the opposing side, the Assassins.
The same report said these roles are likely if the movie is really based on the game which tells about the unending war between the Assassin Order and the Templar Order during the Crusades. Though the game may be classified as historial sci-fi, it also allows people to experience their ancestors' memories.
Fassbender was earlier quoted in a Game Spot report that the movie will be respectful of the game to which the film will be based. "There's so much cool stuff in the game that we're actually spoiled for choice in terms of what we can use and what we can't, but we also want to bring new elements to it and perhaps our own version of things that already exist in the game...
"But we're definitely making a feature film, and we're approaching it as a feature film, as opposed to approaching it as a video game," the actor said.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot earlier announced that the "Assassin's Creed" movie has officially started production. "We have the pleasure to announce today that the green light has been given by New Regency, and the production has already started...This is a very important milestone for the project and for our team on Assassin's Creed," Wired quoted him as saying.
The news outlet also said that Ubisoft has started developing the movie in 2011 after its Motion Pictures division was formed. Ubisoft is said to be developing six movies. Aside from the "Assassin's Creed," Ubisoft is also planning to release movies for the following game franchises -- "Far Cry," "Rabbids," "Watch Dogs," "Splinter Cell," and "Ghost Recon."
"Assassin's Creed" movie will hit theaters on December 21, 2016. It is directed by "Macbeth" director Justin Kurzel under the script written by Bill Collage, Adam Cooper, and Michael Lesslie.
