After Disney officially confirmed Emma Watson has been cast as Belle in the studio's live-action movie adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast," many have speculated on who will take on Beast. Or rather, who makes the perfect Beast to the "Harry Potter" star's Belle.
And now, reports have it that Ryan Gosling has been offered the plum role, according to Comicbook. In fact, he's the Mouse House's "top choice."
"Because Disney is producing, the film is supposed to be a remake of the 1991 animated classic, not a re-imagining," the site said. "It will be directed by Bill Condon ('The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn'), from a script written by Stephen Chbosky."
If the offer was made, will the father-of-one accept it? In the last few years, his film choices have been rather dramatically dark. "Beauty and the Beast" is a marked departure from the kind of movies he's been working on, so there's that nail-biting suspense involved on whether the man will say yes to this project. Perhaps unless if this version is of the rather darker, dramatic kind.
Emma has not been shy in expressing her joy at being cast as Belle, saying that her "six year old self is on the ceiling - heart bursting," as noted by The Hollywood Reporter last month.
"It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I'll get to dance to 'Be Our Guest' and sing 'Something There'," she said.
"Time to start some singing lessons," she added.
Emma Watson fans may recall that the actress had expressed her desire to work with Ryan in the past. In 2012, there were rumors of Emma wanting to play "50 Shades of Grey" heroine Anastasia Steele if Ryan would be playing Christian Grey.
"@EmWatson told me she'd be far more interested in playing Anastasia in 50 Shades of Grey if Ryan Gosling plays Christian. #mugglelove," radio and TV host Ryan Seacrest's tweet read nearly three years ago. Perhaps those "Ryan Gosling as Beast" rumors started from this throwback tidbit?
Meanwhile, there also has been talk that Tom Felton may be appearing in the upcoming live-action retelling of the fairytale classic, according to KpopStarz. Fans reportedly have been clamoring for the "Harry Potter" villain to play the Beast opposite former co-star Emma.
"Fans of Tom Felton and Emma Watson's tandem aptly called the 'Dramiones' are reportedly petitioning for Felton as Beast. Should the two reunite for the film, they won't have a problem with chemistry especially since Emma Watson once admitter her crush on her 'Harry Potter' co-star," the site said.
