Convicted murderer Joran van der Sloot impregnated a woman while imprisoned in Lima, Peru, according to NBC News via De Telegraaf, a Dutch newspaper.

The paper reports that van der Sloot's lawyer, Maximo Altes, reported the women, only known as "Leidi," is passed her third month of pregnancy.

"A test has proved" the pregnancy," the paper quoted Van der Sloot as saying.

Sources are saying the mother became impregnated during an unsupervised visit with Van der Sloot.

The Huffington Post said last year, media in Peru identified a woman named Leydi Figueroa Uceda as Van der Sloot's girlfriend, claims the woman denied, saying the two are friends.

The article also said "Leidi" uses birth control pills, but had forgotten to take them, and refused to have an abortion due to her Catholic faith.

Van der Sloot is currently serving a 28-year sentence for robbing and murdering Stephany Flores in 2010 in a Lima hotel room. He's also wanted in the U.S. in connection with the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway in 2005.

In 2010, he confessed to murdering Flores, but later retracted his claim.

"I did not want to do it. The girl intruded into my private life," he told said. "She had no right."

"I confronted her," he continued. "She was frightened, we argued and she wanted to get away. I grabbed her by the neck and I hit her."

Shortly afterward, Holloway's family appeared on "Good Morning America," saying they would like for Van der Sloot to tell what happened to their daughter, who is still missing.
