There's the downward-facing dog, and then there's the Double Down Dog.
The former is a fitness boosting pose, while the later is a cholesterol-boosting food item that is fastfood chain KFC's latest offering.
Health advocates may thank their stars upon finding out that this “food abomination,” as Mashable calls it, is offered in limited quantities and outlets. Meanwhile, The Huffington Post described the odd sandwich as “a fried chicken hot dog bun surrounding a hot dog covered in a cheesy, slimy sauce of sorts.”

“It even looks like there are bits of relish in the sauce,” the site added.

This is not the first time KFC has released a menu item of a similar sort. Previously, the fastfood chain had released “Double Down,” which is “a sandwich that uses chicken patties in place of bread,” Business Insider said. This product was sold in the United States in 2010.
Incidentally, the Double Down Dog is only sold in the Philippines for two days, starting on January 26 and ending on January 27. Only 50 pieces will be sold per participating outlet.
“It seems as though America is not yet ready, which is either a blessing or a curse. Only time, and blood tests, will tell,” Mashable said.

Business Insider had pointed out that KFC's latest newsmaker of a product “represents a few food trends.”

“Restaurants have been ramping up offerings of protein as more diners watch their carbs. Taco Bell released an entire menu of protein-heavy items last year,” the news source added.
Despite this, KFC had told USA Today that the said sandwich won't be coming to the United States soon. Could this be because the fastfood chain is brewing something even more eye-popping for America?
A number of social media users have since commented on the sandwich, with some adding political flavor to the fastfood menu item.
“why hasn't Obama held a press conference to address the existence of the KFC Double Down Dog yet, what is he hiding from us,” tweeted August Osage Turner.
“I didn't support the government banning any food until I saw the KFC Double Down Dog. (via @kimbhasin),” Derek Thompson's post said.
With the popularity of the said product on social media, it goes without saying that KFC may be doing a similar stunt in the future. Perhaps we'll be seeing yet another Double Down version a year or so from now?
