This year's WWE Royal Rumble ended up in a mess after Philadelphia fans who watched the event at the Wells Fargo Center on Sunday were outraged by the match's results, most especially by the early defeat of Daniel Bryan, Inquisitr reported.

Royal Rumble 2015 is the 28th annual Royal Rumble event, and some might think that after so many years in the business, WWE would know better than to earn the ire the fans. However, that's exactly what they ended up doing when they planned for Bryan, one of their more popular fighters, to last only 10 to 15 minutes in the rumble.

Bryan has been missing in action for a few months and was stripped from his WWE title after suffering a neck injury. Sunday's event was his first pay-per-view event since returning, and many were probably anticipating his emergence as the winner to reclaim his belt, according to USA Today.

It didn't happen that way as Bryan ended up being outed from the ring by Bray Wyatt, who shoved him off the ring and to the floor.

The crowd went wild, but not in a good way. The chants of Bryan's name immediately started and lasted for a few minutes and people even started booing all other entrants to the ring. By the time the outrage petered off, the fans continued cheering for only a handful of wrestlers.

The same case went for Dolph Ziggler, whose entry was celebrated and whose elimination by The Big Show and Kane drew more boos. The Rock was even booed by the crowd when he appeared to help Roman Reigns, who eventually become the last man standing.

So much was the outrage of the Philly fans that they took a stand against WWE, blocking the talents and their cars from leaving the venue and thousands canceling their subscription to WWE. The fans even started trending "#CancelWWENetwork," started lashing out at the WWE Twitter page and so many were demanding refunds that the WWE Network page crashed, according to TIME.

Following his defeat in the Rumble though, Bryan was nothing if not graceful and grateful to fans.

He sent out a tweet on Tuesday, saying, "Thanks to all of you for your support, not just last night but for years. You guys are the best, and I am truly the luckiest man alive."

It remains to be seen how WWE will deal with the fallout from fans, especially given that its Wrestlemania season. They need to make a decision and fast because with no viewers or fan support, the future of the organization is looking bleak.
