Samsung Galaxy S6 Release Date, Specs & Price: Device Won't Have Snapdragon 810 Processor? [Rumors]

Recent rumors are saying that there is a huge possibility that the new Samsung flagship device, Galaxy S6, would not receive the latest and the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 as its processor.

Sam Mobile said that it is likely that the Korean electronics giant would ditch the said processor due to some "overheating issues." It noted that there have been even speculations that problems with the said processor has caused the delay of the launch of the device as well as other devices expected to get it such as HTC's next flagship device, One M9. Due to these mounting problems, Samsung would just use its own Exynos processors.

The claim has been backed by a report from Bloomberg which cited some "people who asked not to be identified." The report said that the new Qualcomm chip overheated when Samsung tested it for its new device so the smartphone maker has decided to just use its own "most-advanced" chips.

HI Investment & Securities Co. analyst Song Myung Sup was quoted in the Bloomberg report saying that since the rumored S6 is Samsung's current "most important model" so it would not like to take a risk and use a chip that has some issues.

"The decision is a blow to Qualcomm, the world's largest maker of semiconductors used in phones, which has been supplying Samsung with chips that run the company's best-selling handsets. The South Korean company, the world's second-largest chipmaker, is trying to become more self-reliant and boost its own processor-making division as it spends $15 billion on a new factory outside Seoul," reports Bloomberg.

However, in a separate Sam Mobile report, it noted that some analysts are saying that the new Samsung device would still have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor.

For instance, Timothy Arcuri of Cowen was cited in the report saying that the overheating issues of the Qualcomm chips have already been fixed so it is likely that the device would have it. However, it could cause some delay since the production of the chips itself was delayed for two to three months. Arcuri noted that it is also likely that Samsung would release the S6 with Exynos processors in Korea and would just delay the product shipments for other markets. He also stressed that the overheating issues in the Qualcomm chips were discovered on the device's base layers and not on the metal.

Meanwhile, Tim Long of BMO Capital Markets says that a significant drop in the internal share of using the Exynos processors in Samsung devices has been recorded in the years 2012 to 2014. Long says that is is "impossible" for the company to reverse this in just a few months.

Aside from the processor, the device is believed to get a Quad HD (2560x1440) display, the new Android 5.0 Lollipop update, a 3GB RAM, 32/64/128GB storage, 16/20 megapixel main camera and 5 megapixel front camera. Samsung has not yet confirmed these rumors.
