'Bourne 5' Movie Release Date & Cast: Film Arrives Earlier?

The release date of the new "Bourne" movie has been pushed back two weeks, reports said.

According to IGN, the release of the next "Bourne" movie has been rescheduled to July 29, 2016 from its original release date of July 15. Cinema Blend on the other hand notes that the move somehow makes way for the "Star Trek 3" movie which is scheduled to hit theaters on July 8, 2016. It was also noted that the upcoming "Planet of the Apes" movie has also been rescheduled and pushed back for a July 14, 2017 release date.

So what do you think of this shift in release dates? Does this tell us anything? Or will it affect, in any way, the movie's sales and income? Cinema Blend's Mike Reyes says that "it's not a huge shift by any stretch, but it's enough of a move to give the new film a little more time to maneuver." He added that the shift does not mean that they are losing confidence on the "Bourne 5". Rather, it is a way of "re-positioning itself for a better angle of attack."

Reyes also says that he personally thinks that the move is right as it is expected that the third "Star Trek" movie will rake viewers to make it into the box office. A huge number of people are expected in the said movie as the two previous installments "Star Trek" and "Star Trek Into Darkness" had been both successful. However, if the third movie somehow fails, then there will be more room for other movie hits such as "Bourne."

With its new date, "Bourne 5" is expected to compete with movies "Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates" and Warner Bros' "King Arthur," Slash Film notes. The "Bourne" movie also gets a week ahead of the movie "Suicide Squad," it added.

Matt Damon earlier revealed that he will be returning in the "Untitled Next Bourne Chapter" as Jason Bourne, Screen Rant reported. He also confirmed that director Paul Greengrass would also be returning. Greengrass directed previous "Bourne" movies "Bourne Supremacy" and "Bourne Ultimatum."

As for the script, it has been reported that Tony Gilroy will no longer do it, handing it over to Greengrass, Damon, and Christopher Rouse; a first for the movie series.

Note that in 2011, Matt Damon criticized Gilroy's "Bourne Ultimatum" script. "It's really the studio's fault for putting themselves in that position...I don't blame Tony for taking a boatload of money and handing in what he handed in. It's just that it was unreadable. This is a career-ender. I mean, I could put this thing up on eBay and it would be game over for that dude. It's terrible. It's really embarrassing. He was having a go, basically, and he took his money and left," he was quoted as saying. The actor already apologized for his statement.
