The world will be watching the third day of the United Nations' General Debate as key political countries will discuss issues within and around their countries today.
Palestine, Israel, Libya, and China are the countries that the US will watch due to the ongoing struggles in the Middle East and Northern Africa and the rising power that is China.
2012 will not have the same flare Palestine had last year.
In 2011, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas filed the necessary requirements in a bid to be a fully recognized UN member state. The bid failed in the Security Council, but it is likely Abbas will pitch a draft resolution to an observer state from an "observer entity." The vote to be an observer state only requires the General Assembly's vote.
Abbas' speech is expected to focus on Palestinian statehood and conditions in the Middle East.
The Washington Post report that the General Assembly is likely to approve Palestine's bid for observer-state status, but could risk financial loses from the US. The resolution will like be presented after the US election.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shortly after Palestine, but Business Week reported their main focus will be Iran. Netanyahu will discuss Iran as a threat to the Middle East peace process, for several reasons, including acquiring nuclear weapons.
Libya is also noted to speak today, according to the UN. The death of US Ambassador Christopher Stevens in the Libyan town of Benghazi is likely to be mentioned.
Latinos Post will have a recap, transcript, and video of both Palestinian and Isreali speeches shortly after their speeches are delivered.
