Fans of former Scary Spice Mel B and talent show X Factor UK worried over the singer's absence from the first round of the show's finals. Fox News reported that the British artist "was on her way to a press conference and rehearsal when she fell ill after being picked up from her house." This episode reportedly happened on Thursday last week.

"MEL B owes her life to a quick thinking chauffeur driver, who raced her to a hospital in London after stomach pains left her 'screaming in agony,'" the news source said.

However, the 39-year-old's return to the show Sunday night did not reassure fans, who noted that she had a tell-tale bruise and scratch marks.

"There had been no explanation from the 39-year-old former Spice Girl for her hospital admission, which caused her to miss Saturday's episode of the show," MailOnline noted. "But concerned viewers pointed out that she appeared to have 'a swollen face', a bruise on her cheek and scratches on her upper arms."

Now, observers are suspecting that the singer may have been a victim of domestic violence. Did husband Stephen Belafonte hit her?

"I don't usually respond to Twitter msgs but I will respond to comments of hitting my wife which I think are quite disgusting untrue!" Mel's hubby responded via Twitter.

"Mel was very ill a bunch of doctors helped her get better if fans can't just relax B4 being negative they r not real fans of @OfficialMelB," his second tweet about the issue read.

However, the absence of Mel's wedding ring Sunday evening wasn't included in Stephen's defense. The X Factor judge notably did not wear her wedding band when she reappeared on the show, which only fueled the domestic violence talks further.

Mirror had also reported that the ex-Spice Girl's husband did not visit her while she was at the hospital.

"The 39-year-old's estranged mum Andrea and her sister Danielle both took to Twitter to express their concern after news emerged she would be missing the show due to illness," the publication noted. Danielle had also initially revealed that she did not know the whereabouts of her sister and learned of it only 3 days after the incident.

Meanwhile, The Sun has since reported that the singer "has left husband Stephen Belafonte following a series of massive rows before her emergency dash to hospital."

Could the quarrels have ended in a physical altercation?

The rumor about the couple having trouble in paradise may not be entirely untrue, as a recent interview had quoted Mel as admitting she had quarreled with Stephen, which was why she was 3 hours late for the Grazia photo shoot.

"I walked in pissed off because I had a big row with my husband about stupid stuff. Sometimes he pisses me off like no other, but he gets me," she told the magazine.

It is worth noting that Stephen had "a conviction for assault in 2003 for lashing out at Nicole who is mum to Giselle," according to Mirror. Nicole Contreras is Stephen's ex-girlfriend and mother of his 10-year old daughter Giselle Belafonte. "Belafonte completed a year-long domestic violence programme," the news source went on to reveal.

"He's a changed person now," Nicole was quoted as saying 4 years after the conviction.

Is he still a changed man? What do you think?
