Canadian actor Kim Coates who plays the role of Alex "Tig" Trager in the hit crime drama TV series "Sons of Anarchy" have some revelations about the show's finale.
In an exclusive interview with theStar.com, the 56-year old actor said that fans really have to see the series' finale as it would definitely be "brutal Shakespearean epic."
"This [The finale] is going to be epic. There won't be a dry eye in the house when it's over. I can't tell you why I said that. But it is brutal. It is a brutal Shakespearean epic finale that will be total madness," Coates was quoted as saying. The Star said it conducted the interview while the actor was on break in Toronto, Canada, shortly after the finale's shoot.
"'Sons of Anarchy' is an adrenalized drama with darkly comedic undertones that explores a notorious outlaw motorcycle club's (MC) desire to protect its livelihood while ensuring that their simple, sheltered town of Charming, California remains exactly that: charming. The MC must confront threats from drug dealers, corporate developers and overzealous law officers. Behind the MC's familial lifestyle and legally thriving automotive shop is a ruthless, thriving illegal arms business. This is a series about the seduction of money, power and blood," according to the show's website.
Coates' character is one of the major ones in the show. Other actors and actresses included in the series are Charlie Hunnam who portrays the lead role Jackson "Jax" Teller, Katey Sagal who plays the role of Gemma Teller Morrow, Ron Perlman as Clarence "Clay" Morrow, Mark Boone Junior as Robert Munson, Tommy Flanagan as Filip "Chibs" Telford, and Theo Rossi as Juan Carlos "Juice" Ortiz.
Coates said the seventh season was really surprising and that he himself did not know what was going to happen to his character. He said he only knew if his character was going to die or not when he already had the script.
"Kurt [Sutter] has always said for the ten leads he would tell us if we're going to be around or not from the beginning of the year. He wouldn't tell you how or why. But you'd get paid for the season no matter what show you got killed in. This season he didn't have to tell it to any of us that we're alive or dead because it's our last season. So none of us knew what happened till we got the script. And that was insane. For the first time ever. It was so palpable when we got those scripts. It was totally on," he told The Star. Sutter is the show's creator.
Coates said in the interview that he had doubts about his decision to take the role at first. But as time passed by, he got to really enjoy every bit of his role in the show. He also thanked Sutter for being so honest with him when he offered him the role. Coates said Sutter explained to him that "Tig" will start as a violent sociopath but that is just during the start. He said Sutter told him that his role will be "everything" -- "twisted, funny, charming and sexy, and he's going to cry and laugh and howl."
"I just know at the end of the first season I really enjoyed it. And so from Season 1 and 2 and 3 all the way to 7, I've basically come full circle. I leave it at that," he added.
"Sons of Anarchy" is considered as the "biggest hit on FX," getting over six million viewers during the start of its seventh and final season.
