At the Tokyo Game Show, Kojima Productions and Platinum Games released a new trailer for Metal Gear Solid Rising: Revengeance featuring the game's hero, Raiden, in battle with a host of peculiar villains. As seen in the video, players will face off against a Shiva-like cyborg with several arms named Mistral, and two ninjas known as Sundowner and Monsoon.

Rising is being developed by Platinum Games, whose resume includes an impressive list of frantic action games such as Vanquish, Madworld, and Bayonetta. The studio is run by former members of Clover, the creative team behind the critically acclaimed Okami and Viewtiful Joe. Platinum is also currently working on Bayonetta 2 and a new intellectual property called Wonderful 101, both of which are exclusive to the Wii U.

Revengeance, a spin-off of the Metal Gear franchise, takes place three years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and follows the story of series veteran Raiden as he works for peace-keeping "Private-Military Company" known as Maverick Security. While the story is likely to be as convoluted as ever, the game looks to follow Metal Gear's introspective tradition and looks to deliver a deeper look into what makes our favorite cybernetic ninja hero tick.

Rising pushes the series into uncharted territory by shifting the gameplay's focus away from stealth. Although players are given the tools to perform silent kills, the hallmark of Raiden's newest adventure is its over-the-top, relentless action. Platinum Games' portfolio shows off an impressive list of fast-paced action games that are beloved by fans and praised by critics. Players are given the ability to trigger slow motion and slice targets from any direction that the player so chooses, and doesn't shy away from depicting the brutal results.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance releases on PS3 and Xbox 360 on February 19, 2013.
