Residents of Kansas and Oklahoma were rattled by a magnitude 4.8 earthquake on Wednesday, reports said.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter of the quake was located 13 kilometers south of Conway Springs in Kansas.

Reuters said that the depth of the quake was described as "shallow" as it only measured 3.4 miles. It struck at 3:40 p.m. No casualties or damage have been recorded or reported as of press time.

"We have not received any reports of injury or damage but we are still gathering information," Reuters quoted Kansas Emergency Management spokeswoman Sharon Watson as saying.

A separate report from the Associated Press cited Watson saying that the only reported damage was a tree uprooted in the area and the foundation of a house has been damage by the quake.

However, the same report from Reuters said that some structural damage has been reported by media in Wichita which is just north of Conway Springs.

CNN News said that a caller told the Sedgwick County 911 dispatch center that the quake moved him and his recliner about eight inches across the floor. The dispatcher then replied saying that they also felt the quake in their area.

USA Today said the quake was also felt in Oklahoma and Arkansas.

A resident from Oklahoma identified as Kristi Clinage confirmed this, telling CNN, "We had put our Christmas tree up and every ornament shaking...In fact, my dog was sleeping in the chair. He came over and looked me like, 'What's going on?'"

She also said that the quake did not cause any damage to her coffee shop but she said that she saw some people posted on Facebook photos of cracked walls.

Meanwhile, a Hired Man's Grocery & Grill employee in Kansas named Grace Fisher told CNN that she also felt the quake. "I was standing at the register...There are racks of candy nearby. They were quivering and shaking," she was quoted as saying.

In a Twitter post, the U.S. Geological Survey asked its followers to report to them if they felt the quake and urged them to answer their "Did You Feel It" form.

"We invite everyone who experienced the quake near Wichita to complete our "Did You Feel It?" form: https://on.doi.gov/10XFc0r," it said.

This was followed by another tweet that said, "To this point, most distant "Did You Feel It?" report we've received was from Irving TX - 490 kilometers distant.  "Weak" shaking reported."

CNN said that quakes with magnitudes like this can cause moderate damage. It added that several less intense quakes have also shook these areas on Wednesday.

Earlier Wednesday, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback said that six portable monitors will be deployed in the state to track the upswing in ground movement in Sumner County and in Harper and Barber counties.

Kansas so far has been shook by over 90 quakes this year, USA Today said citing the U.S. Geological Survey. The magnitudes of these quakes range from 1.3 to 4.3. Just this September, a 4.1 quake jolted the area. USA Today noted that the strongest quake to hit the area was recorded in 1867. It had a magnitude of 5.1.
