Fast-paced and explosive action scenes, superb stunts, and Tom Cruise have all been the hallmarks of the "Mission Impossible" movie franchise.

The 52-year-old actor appears to have taken the stunt stuff to a new level when he performed another death-defying stunt for "Mission Impossible 5."

ABC News reports that Tom Cruise shot a scene from the "MI5" movie while hanging outside an Airbus A400M military plane flying at 5,000 feet above the British countryside.

The scene was said to be shot in September but it was only over the weekend that the Daily Mail got hold of the photos of the shoot.

The actor, who is known for performing his own stunts, appears intent on topping his own high-flying stunt in "Mission Impossible: The Ghost Protocol," the fourth installment to the very successful franchise.

In 2011, Cruise dangled from the world's tallest building, the 123-story Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to shoot a stunt and action scene for MI4, details ABC News.

The Daily Mail believes that the latest death-defying stunt for "Mission Impossible 5" is the most daring yet from Tom Cruise.

"Tom, who has already scaled the world's tallest building and free climbed Colorado's 2,000-foot canyons for the Mission Impossible movie franchise, was once again going solo on the death-defying stunt," notes the Daily Mail.

Prior to the airborne shoot, the actor has had a little practice on the ground. The scene was tried first while the plane was not flying and Tom was seen clinging on the tail of the military plane.

During the preparation for the airborne filming, he was briefed by stunt experts about the best way on how to lower his risk while in the air, discloses the Daily Mail.

Tom Cruise also did away with protective clothing and settling for a charcoal slim fit suit that limited his movement while on the side of the moving Airbus. He also has brown brogues to sort of give him a grip, albeit minimal, on the side of the plane, notes the report.

MI4 was released on December 11 and made $700 million worldwide. And if Tom Cruise's latest death-defying stunt is to be the benchmark, the fifth movie is sure to soar to even greater heights.

Set to be shown in the USA on Christmas Day next year, "Mission Impossible 5" is to be directed by Christopher McQuarrie.

Tom will reprise his role as Ethan Hunt for the secret agency Impossible Mission Force. He will be joined by Rebecca Ferguson, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames.

An official trailer of Mission Impossible 5 has yet to be released but here's a video of Tom Cruise's death-defying plane stunt:
