After several months, Koda is finally back home. Thanks to Nebraska truck driver Jimmy Dimmit who drove 1,380 miles just to bring the 95-pound bull mastiff to her family in Arizona.
According to two separate reports of examiner.com, Koda disappeared on the wedding day of her owners Dani and Jason Windham. The Lincoln Journal Star said that that was on August 4.
That day, Koda was last seen "safely playing" with two other dogs at Holmes Lake in Nebraska, Examiner said. Koda together with the two other dogs eventually got out of the fence and ran away, it added.
The couple and their families and friends upon finding out that Koda and the two other dogs were missing tried to find their pets but failed. The two other dogs -- Finn and Hooch -- were eventually found by animal control. Koda, on the other hand, remained missing.
Sad as it may be, the couple continued with their life together without Koda. Examiner said that the couple had to transfer to Camp Verde in Arizona for Jason's job.
The hopes of finding their beloved pet went up when they received a call from a veterinary clinic located in Wahoo, Nebraska, around 40 miles away from Arizona, Examiner said citing a news report published by The News Herald. The Lincoln Journal Star identified the clinic as Green Acre Veterinary Clinic.
Koda, the report said, was found after a farmer reported that a "big dog" has been chasing his cattle. Upon checking the dog, the veterinary clinic found out it was Koda -- through a chip indicating she belongs to the Windhams.
The couple was "thrilled" to discover that Koda has been found and is safe. However, Examiner said that the couple did not have enough money to fly Koda home.
Sam Franklyn of Lost Pets of Lancaster, Examiner said, then asked for help. The couple also turned to Facebook to ask for help. Upon seeing the plea, Jimmy Dimmit, who was then in Ashland and heading to California, immediately offered help.
The News Herald said that Dimmit and Koda traveled for 24 hours before the dog was finally reunited with her owners on Monday.
According to The Lincoln Journal Star, Dimmit had "no hesitations," about helping, adding that he himself is a dog-lover.
The Windhams and Dimmitt met at a truck stop near Flagstaff. To thank Dimmitt and his girlfriend, Lori Wischmann, for their kindness, the Windhams are inviting the couple to dinner "the next time they pass through," The Lincoln Journal Star said.
Dimmitt, on the other hand, was just "glad to do his part," reported The Lincoln Journal Star.
