In their first game of qualifying, the defending world champion Spain has not gotten off to the start thye wished. After one half, the score is currently tied at zero between Spain and Georgia.

Coach Vicente del Bosque decided to go with a lineup that was largely reminiscent of the Euro Cup champions which included Iker Casillas, Gerard Pique, Sergio Ramos, Alvaro Arbeloa, Jordi Alba, Andres Iniesta, Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Sergio Busquets, David Villa, and Roberto Soldado. Villa and Soldado did not play in the Euro Cup, but have looked good with a pair of opportunities between the two.

Correction: David Villa did not start. David Silva was the starter up top and he was a major part of the Euro Cup.
However, the Spanish have threatened, but have not succeeded. Another 45 remain for them to make something happen.
