The fourth season of "American Horror Story" has only just started, but the sky-high ratings proved once again that Ryan Murphy's anthology series is worth watching.
AHS has been renewed for another season, and according to Entertainment Weekly, the premiere of "Freak Show" set a new record for FX, which attracted 10 million viewers in total from television views and the Live+3 DVR playback together, besting season 3's Coven premiere by 38%.
Season four will run until January 2015, with the fifth season slated to begin the following fall with another 13 episodes.
According to E! Online, AHS co-creator Ryan Murphy, already knows what the fifth season will be about, saying that there were Easter eggs in the first two episodes of "Freak Show" that will hint the next setting. Murphy also teased that Sarah Paulson really loves her character on the show.
Unfortunately, chances are slim that AHS lead Jessica Lange will return for another season as she was reported to say that "Freak Show" will be her last in the series, although Murphy is adamant not to let his main star go without a fight.
He previously said, "I'm never accepting [that she will leave]. Before I was met with a really quick no and now I'm hearing, 'Let's keep talking.' So that's a promising sign. I think if I presented her with the right character, it could work. That's my hope. I'm sending bribes every day!"
It remains to be seen whether or not Lange will continue with the series, but Murphy should be sure that he's still going to be able to give the AHS formula even without her, considering the network's expectations for the series.
FX Boss John Landgraf said in a statement via E! Online: "'The American Horror Story' anthology has had the highest growth trajectory of any show in FX history, not to mention an unprecedented track record of success in awards recognition. With Ryan Murphy and his partners, Brad Falchuk, Dante Di Loreto and Tim Minear at the helm, the show's success is not surprising. AHS continues to deliver amazing stories, a brilliant troupe of actors led by Jessica Lange, and a visual style unlike any other on TV. With Nip/Tuck, Glee, The Normal Heart, and American Horror Story, Ryan Murphy has established himself as one of the most successful and prolific producers of this generation. We expect AHS: Freak Show and the next incarnation of AHS to further his legacy."
Murphy is currently on a roll, with another anthology order from FX called "American Crime Story," which, according to Mashable, is similar to AHS, but tackling a new true-crime story per season.
