It wasn't called "Freak Show" for nothing. For one, FX's TV series hit American Horror Story's fourth season promises to be freakier and scarier than its predecessor "Coven".

The show's director and co-creator Ryan Murphy said that even the cast of the show has been spooked out by the new season . "Two crew members told me they have had nightmares about this clown since we started shooting -- and they're not even scared of clowns,, explained by Murphy according to Hallels.com as he discussed what to expect from the show.

Premiering today, October 8, the 13-episode tv series has the perfect timing especially since Halloween is fast approaching. While the graveyard is the usual backdrop of Halloween, a rather merry circus will be the show's main setting, where the primary villain "Twisty the Clown" (played by John Carroll Lynch ) will spread not joy and laughter, but evil and madness, particularly to the new characters in town who will comprise the "freaks" of the show.

Among these new characters in town (and in the series) are Dot and Bette, to be played by Sarah Paulson, who are conjoined twins with two heads but has the ability to think and act as two individuals.

Cast Jessica Lange, who is said to play her last season with the show, will play circus ringmistress named Elsa Mars, and will be Twisty's most convenient scapegoat.

Another character to be part of AHS is 20-year-old and two feet and 0.6 inches-high Jyoti Amge who will play the role of Ma Petite, another of the circus freaks. Interestingly Amge is also Guinness Book of World Records title holder of smallest woman in the world.

Other stars on the said series include Evan Peters (Jimmy Darling) as a man with flipperlike hands; Angela Bassett  (Desiree DuPree) as a three-breasted woman; and Kathy Bates (Ethel Darling) as the bearded lady. With these character descriptions, viewers are indeed in for a crazy, creepy, and freaky ride.

Other cast to anticipate in the show are Michael Chiklis (Dell Toledo), Frances Conroy (Gloria Mott), Denis O'Hare (Stanley), Emma Roberts (Maggie), Finn Wittrock (Dandy Mott).

According to Hallels.com, FX president said that the new season will be very distinct, having a "really different look and design and cinematography standpoint than any of the previous incarnations."  Ryan Murphy also added that the show has some of the most disturbing things they have ever done, which should convince us all not to go to freak shows or circuses anymore, for that matter.

American Horror Story: Freak Show premiere will air at 10 p.m. ET.
