After news of Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn joining the cast of "True Detective," it's time to think of the female leads. The drama series production team is said to be thinking of casting Keira Knightley ("Pirates of the Caribbean," "Begin Again") for one of the major roles.
According to 2 Paragraphs, several actresses are also rumored to winning the female lead, among which are Elisabeth Moss, Rosario Dawon, Jessica Biel, and Jessica Chastain.
One bet, Rachel McAdams, unfortunately cannot commit, because according to a source for Deadline, "Rachel McAdams ... appears to have a scheduling conflict with a movie, with Keira Knightley's name also entering the mix."
There is no proof yet if Knightley is interested in the role for "True Detective," but considering that production is about to begin, they will have to cast the final parts soon enough.
With Farrell and Vaughn placing two out of the three male leads, the third lead is up for grabs, and it seems that the best contender for it is Taylor Kitsch.
But back to the female lead.
There have been criticisms about the show's portrayal of women, mostly saying that the series is misogynist in nature. After all, it's more testosterone than anything else.
Actress Michelle Monaghan begged to differ, however, saying in an interview with Vanity Fair that, "I really thought that that was just such a misguided criticism. I kept waiting and [saying] 'O.K., just keep watching, just keep watching.' I thought people might view it differently after they saw the season as a whole."
But as far as female leads are concerned, it seems that Knightley will be the best bet, considering her star status as of late, with a sure nod from the Oscars for her role in "The Imitation Game" with Benedict Cumberbatch.
In a report by UpAndComers.net the second season of "True Detective" will follow a murder plot that leads to a conspiracy, with three officers involved in the case.
"True Detective" is set to begin filming later this fall.
